A marvellous weekend in South Tyrol

I live in Veneto so it is not difficult to reach the South Tyrol for me but if you come from far, the nearest airport is Venice. In order to reach this fantastic region you have to cross mountain passes where you can enjoy stunning scenery any time of year. With luck, I find myself going to every season to see the wonderful changes that nature offers.

Coming from Cortina, just crossed the mountain pass I immediately find the quaint village of St Kassian where I will be staying for 2 nights in the beautiful structure of the Lagació Hotel.

The most important things for the native people in Alta Badia are the nature surrounding them, the Dolomites in particular, the tradition of the valley and the true cordiality of the people. And you can feel all of these in this unique hotel.

The structure

Nature is the architect in the property, truly inspired by the Dolomites but the thing I like most was the sustainability of the establishment: conserving and saving the natural habitat is at the top of the list for the workers and the South Tyrol people.

In every room there is a drinking fountain with its vitalising and refreshing water, which comes from its own natural spring and is vitalised using different methods: you can use it at day and night.

The breakfast was sublime too: they serve hosts a wideselection of home-made comfitures, organic breads, genuine and local cheese, as well as selected specialities from certified regional and organic producers. There are also lots of vegan and glutin-free products and a plate of the day which is different for each mornings.

The 24 suites at the hotel reflect the deep bond with nature.

All of them are stylish and contemporary, with a trace of the traditional, at the same time. In our exclusive rooms, modern lifestyle is combined perfectly with a lack of pretension. Infact warm tones, natural materials and abundant sun and moon light spreading through panoramic window create a relaxed atmosphere.

The Palsa Spa

La Palsa Spa can give you total relaxation for you mind, body and soul: it is a refuge where you can get away from it all and rediscover your inner equilibrium. At the end, it is the perfect spot to make your soul stronger, your body spoiled and your sense stimulated.

In here you can close your eyes, inhale deeply and gather new force and strength in the Finnish sauna, in the steam room and in the bio sauna. After that, you can refresh in the ice fountain or outdoors in the cool mountain air or you can totally chill out in the restorative relax zone on a soothing hay bed or in our new hot tub, drinking a cup of tea or a glass of revitalised water. Actually in here you can relax yourself after doing some outdoor activities or mountains sports.

The nearby

Lagació is the name of the mountain that overlooks the surrounding area. The temperature is much lower because it is 1500m. By the way, this still does not stop me and after spending the whole day relaxing in the hotel spa, the next day I started exploring what this wonderful valley offers.

There are so many places to see: you can admire the magnificent mountain peaks of the Conturines, Mount Lavarella and Mount Lagazuoi looking down on the Val Badia valley.

Otherwise, you can also visit Brunico, a small city near the zone, and the famous lake of Braies: one of the most photographed lake in the world I guess (and one of my favorite).

The best season to come here

It makes no difference whether you plan to pay San Cassiano a visit in winter or summer, because each season here has its own charm. In the warmer months of the year, the zone is full of mountain climbers and hikers. When the landscape is under a mantle of snow, you will see the eyes of winter sports enthusiasts light up. Apart from this, you will find also San Cassiano perfect, thanks to the scenic, picturesque landscape offering an incredible range of possibilities to be experienced, even during the summer. We are talking about the many paths you can do and other attractions.
